I found that the Apple X11 + OpenGL performance increased tremendously
(from 3 s per from to 3 frames per second) when I upgraded to 10.2.5
yesterday. Not that I'm complaining, but what happened? I have an G4
iMac.
Going through the contents of the upgrade (well, what Retrospect saved
in last night's back-up), I was surprised to find that it included
several X11 components, even though X11 is still in beta:
dumpkeymap
glxgears
glxinfo
quartz-wm
X
x11perf
xftcache
Xquartz
Xvfb
libfreetype.6.2.dylib
libGL.1.2.dylib
libGLU.1.3.dylib
libXft.1.1.dylib
There are also some libraries in the OpenGL famework:
libGL.dylib
libGLImage.dylib
libGLSystem.dylib
libGLU.dylib
and revised drivers for (AFAICT) all the video interfaces that Apple
has shipped since around the iMac DV -- maybe earlier.
What the changes are, I don't know, but, yes, stuff seems snappier.
