(Remember, this is just *my* opinion)

You're right. The design changes that Apple has made with OS X have
decreased the facility of muscle memory. However, the current situation is
much better than if the menus were instead at the top of each window, as
others have recommended.
This works if your using a machine for the first time, but some of us
have been using other systems for decades, and quite happily at that.
Perhaps our muscle memories, or whatever, work very nicely, thank you,
using this other system.
Being forced to change just because they claim to know better, isn't
likely to make them any sales. Making it the default doesn't hurt anyone,
but not making it available hurts everyone (apart from those who use it
that way from the start).
There are lots of issues which reduce productivity which (IMO) are due to their
insistence that the menu should be at the top of the screen. I suppose I don't
personally care about where the menu is, but I do care about not being able
to customise the window manager to work the way *I* work, not the other way
around.
Perhaps there are ways of doing some of the things that tie my muscles in knots.
Here are some of that come to mind :
Auto-copy-on-select
No-auto-window-raise
Focus-follows-mouse
Easily push/pop window
Put the menu on the screen the application is on
Whenever I go back to a system with the normal behaviour, I feel all
'free' again. It would be nice to feel that way when I use my Powerbook.
I'm an idiot for assuming I would be able to make it work the way I do when
I bought the thing. I should have found it out beforehand, then I would have
more seriously considered buying a Linux box.
Max.
