Success!
I have been able to set a new icon for an Apple Script application as follows:
1. open the new icon in Preview, click Edit -> Copy
2. open the Apple Script application in Finder, click File -> Get Info
3. in the General section of Get Info click to highlight the current icon
4. Edit -> Paste
Very easy. However, this only happens THE VERY FIRST TIME. From then on, the
Paste does nothing. It does not help to Edit->Cut the last icon either.
Many very helpful souls suggested this basic procedure but it just was
not working until someone used the word "cache" which prompted me to
make a Duplicate of my Apple Script application and work on that -- sure
enough, the above worked perfectly on the copy. Similarly, I had to throw the
old Dock entry for my app in the Trash and drag the same app back into
the Dock again in order to see the new icon in the Dock.
So evidently the icon caches are a little too sticky -- Apple, are you listing?
Now my only disappointment is the transparent portions of my new icon are
being rendered black in the Dock. The transparent portions show fine within
the Preview section of Finder and within apps such as Safari and Preview,
only the Dock can't seem to get the transparency correct. I have tried .png
and .tif formats, no change.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped.
Elwood
