If you are using ssh, then don't worry about trying to set up X for all
that hooey. It's much easier and secure to just let ssh handle it for
you.
On the client, use ssh -X (or add ForwardX11 yes to your ~/.ssh/config).
On the server, have X11Forwarding yes in the sshd_config file.
That should be all you need to get going.
