That's not necessarily true when using a rootless X server on Mac OS X
-- if the menu windows are toplevel windows themselves (which is e.g.
how Gtk+ and Qt work) no expose events will be generated when they are
unmapped
Does someone really have to explicitely ask for a feature which gets
around this? On the other hand all Apple hardware of nowadays supports
overlays and underlays (you know very well how thay are exploited in
native Cocoa), isn't that quite obvious? Isn't it obvious that most
interesting scientific visualization - isn't this where Apple pretends
to take part feeling at home?

So, I'll have to stick to my trusty SGI for some more years, which was
not mine, but Apple's choice.
Well, I could argue that if you had brought this up earlier in the year
we might have had time to do something..
