Well, I don't think I did anything special to X11 ...

The behavior I got is just a very typical virtual desktop. As I switch between virtual desktops, open windows alternate. Yes, this is nothing but what virtual desktops should be, but the beta 1 in combination with Space.app didn't do this.

My use of Dock: I set no magnification effect -- I don't like it. Also, I virtually never put windows into the Dock. -- I miss the "window shade" effect on OS 9. Windows flying away into the Dock are no improvement. Instead, I always leave windows open and switch among six virtual desktops (one of them is "sticky") provided by Space.app 0.8 with the following preferences:

Palette Always Top: checked on
Palette Yields Focus: checked on
Quit on Palette Close: checked on
Last Space is "Sticky"

Maybe, the first two parameters can be significant.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Kow

Still wondering what kind of behavior you got; I tried it with quartz-wm and got "odd behaviors" -- sticky
windows with no focus; windows swiching desktops as you click back and forth between desk tops;
etc. Wondering what you were able to do with it.

It turned out later that only the window behavior under quartz-wm is compatible with Space.app's virtual desktop facility. Windows under other window managers like WindowMaker still show odd behaviors. They behave like sticky windows with mouse-focus.

What kind of compatability do you find with space.app? I tried it
and found strange stuff. Basically OK if you want to expose or
hide all of x11 at once, but kind of flaky if you try to spread
your windows among desktops.

I'm quite happy that the beta 2 release gets compatible with Space.app.
It's very nice to run it in rootless mode.

Agreed. At first it had promise. If you're in a Space virtual window and dock a window, it docks/undocks fine. Leave it docked, switch to another VW, then come back. I found the docked window(s) had become undocked and couldn't be docked again without first selecting then from the Windows menu, which genied them from the dock to their already opened positions. Docking then worked. Once again, I've left Space (;
