gnome2 & metacity

I have just installed gnome2 and its running great. Not problems so far :)
I have a question which I know has been discussed before but the answers
are diverse and not entirely clear to me so I hope someone can help.
When I was running gnome1.4 I was using MAC X11 Extensions application
which allowed me to start different windows managers from a drop down
box. Lazy but simple.
I could have quartz-wm running as proxy only and then start gnome1.4 and
enable sawfish via X Extensions and this would leave all my MAC
applications with quartz and all my X applications with sawfish frames
and cut and paste kindof worked.
X11 Extensions does not have metacity for gnome2 so I can't use this method.
So Question.
How do I configure the x11.app menu to run a gnome-session with metacity
as the windows manager and also have quartz-wm --only-proxy as well?
Please assume idiot level UNIX experience.
Thanks
Gary
