When I run xmodmap from my ~/.xinitrc file, the modifications do not take effect unless I execute 'xmodmap .Xmodmap' from the initial xterm session. I have also tried xmodmap -e '...' lines in the .xinitrc file and the same problem happens. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any work arounds?

Below are a test .xinitrc file and the relevant console output. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am using Apple's X11 0.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.2.4.

I asked a similar question in another newsgroup last week.

Someone there pointed out that the "Follow system keyboard layout" preference in the X11 prefs is on by default -- and somehow undoes the xmodmap after it's run. Turn it off and the problem goes away.
