KDE 3.1 (fink), Apple X11

I had KDE 3.0.7 running pretty well in X11 0.2, and just recently I decided to try the KDE 3.1 from Fink's unstable tree. It compiled fine (bundle-kde-ssl) but startkde seems to hang right after it kills ksplash - the process is still running, but no KDE desktop or windows have appeared, and X1 is still purring away. The splash appears for a while during KDE's loading sequence, but when it goes, kde doesn't finish loading - any ideas why? The only element introduced since last time is a new sound card (which I'm experimenting with as we speak) and the 10.2.4 update.
