given the above information what I'm I supposed to select to make sure I don't mess anything up with my current Apple X11 install?

Since you manually installed XFree86 (which Apple's X11 is a variant of), instead of letting Fink do it, pick #1. =)

okay I did that and it installed the placeholder package.

After that I tried 'fink install xpilot' and it came back with:

The following package will be installed or updated:
xpilot
rm -rf xpilot-4.5.4-1
mkdir -p /sw/src/xpilot-4.5.4-1
/sw/bin/tar -xzf /sw/src/xpilot-4.5.4.tar.gz
sed 's:@PREFIX@:/sw:g' </sw/fink/dists/stable/main/finkinfo/games/xpilot-4.5.4-1.patch | patch -p1
patching file Local.config
xmkmf -a
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
imake: No such file or directory
imake: Cannot exec /usr/bin/cpp.
Stop.
imake: Exit code 1.
Stop.
### execution of xmkmf failed, exit code 1

This is same as what I was getting when I was manually trying to install xpilot before fink and after reading the instructions found out I needed the Apple Dev Tools installed.

I'm only on a 64K isdn connection at the moment so I can't download the Apple Dev Tools package at the moment.

What can I do instead? Can I get fink to install cpp which is what I assume its looking for? Is cpp part of a package fink can install??

Asam...
