When I type:

[triniod:~] asam% xterm
xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
[triniod:~] asam%

Why does it give me this error?

Also, what would a .xinitrc look like? I don't have one in my home dir and want to set up one so I can customize my xterm sessions.
