Actually I had changed it to source the fink path and start quartz-wm
and not twm or xclock or the multiple instances of xterm before I ever
tried it. Apparently Apple's X11 ignores this file completely because
my path was the same in xterm when I started X11 as it is in Terminal.
When I changed xinitrc to start KDE, it still started quartz-wm. If it
paid any attention to this file at all it would have had the path
correct and would have started kde (or crashed, or froze, depending
upon what bugs may or may not be associated w/ running kde w/ Apple's
X11). I'll try Martin's wrapper script when I get home. (Thanks
Martin!)

That xinitrc is from a previous X11 install. It will not function
"correctly" because it calls the "twm" window manager instead of
"quartz-wm". Perhaps this was installed by XDarwin?
There's a bunch of other junk in there that I don't know much about.
