When xterm was developed, most unix use was done through the terminal,
so it was very important to get the terminal emulation correct.

Correct emulation is often not as robust with more modern terminal
emulators.  The Terminal.app is not bad, but does do a few things wrong.
It does leave garbage sometimes if you turn on anti-aliasing.

My biggest grip with the Terminal.app is that it is slow.  Sometimes I
feel like I'm working over a slow modem, even when I'm talking to my
local machine.
