This is one feature of Sun's and SGI's X servers that make it MUCH easier
to work with programs like FrameMaker on those platforms than on others.

You might take a look at GnuStep's Display Ghostscript at ftp://ftp.gnustep.org/pub/gnustep/dgs/ or the DPS project at
http://dps.sourceforge.net/


I have never used either of these...
