I'm stumped by this one.
I'm running a Java application with a user interface
(Swing or otherwise) on a remote machine, and using an
X server on my Powerbook as display. This works
without a glitch with both XDarwin and OroborOSX.
With X11, windows appear with borders immediately, but
there's a seconds-long time lag between when a window
appears and when its contents are drawn. This means I
can't switch to X11 yet!
Scenario:
0) launch X11
1) ssh to other machine;
2) add other machine to host via xhost;
3) export DISPLAY on other machine to point to
Powerbook
4) run Java app.
Most X-windows apps work fine, and without time lag --
it seems to be just the Java ones.
I've tried this with several remote machines and
different Java implementations, including RedHat on
x86 (Sun VM) and Alpha (Compaq VM).
Again, it works without a glitch with XDarwin and
Oroboros!
Ideas?
Thanks, Ben Flaumenhaft
