I ran evolution today (ssh -X email@hidden) from the command line, and it worked for all the stuff I tried. It even spawned new windows and closed them when requested/required.
This evolution is the stock 1.0.8 install under redhat linux 8. I do not have the exchange server plug-in dealie bopper installed on the linux machine.

The default Mozilla on the Linux machine also started right up and worked fine.
I have the gtk and gtk+ libraries installed and it seems OK.

I started kpoker up and played a game. Seemed fine until I attempted to use one of it's menus.

Hope that's useful info.
Michael

It's not GTK, its either evolution or one of its components (bonobo, etc) that's broken. gnumric, for example seems to work fine

try: ssh -X me@remotehost gnumeric

evolution, on the other hand has all kind's of weird behaviour.

If you've managed to get xdmcp working, try: Xnest -query remotehost. You can set the size of the Xnest window with -geometry 1024x768.

Quickly, to get xdmcp working for RedHat using gdm, edit /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf and set Enable=1 in section [xmdcp], and restart X (logout, CLT-ALT-BackSpace should do the trick)

NOTE: I have been running Linux since and Mac OS X since the public beta

Ok this is a beta version. It is pretty cool. OpenOffice.org works just fine.

I thought it might be fun to open applications on the Vaio. Evolution would
have been slightly usefull.

ssh X forwarding between Redhat and Apple X11 is broken. I use ssh X forwaring
all the time to administer clients servers.

xterm gives a "Display not found" error. As noted in the flood of e-mails
(thanks to everyone) X forwarding looks after this. It has been working on my
main machine (Vaio C1XD Picturebook) for almost three years.

I'll try again with the next version.

Thanks again to all

Tony Grant
