How can I force X11 into the 8-plane PseudoColor visual mode?

  • Subject: How can I force X11 into the 8-plane PseudoColor visual mode?

I've modifed the Xservers file [ /etc/X11/xdm/] to:
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -bpp 8

as suggested on www.fysik.dtu.dk/CAMP/xlinux.html but I still get the warning:
*WARNING* Atr: Failed to find 8-plane PseudoColor visual

What should I do?

If I try to start X using the Terminal: startx -- -bpp 8 it says unkown command.

Thanks,

Karel
