Wow, they didn't ship mkfontscale[1]. Umm, well, if you really want to
follow up on it, it's available from
http://www.pps.jussieu.fr/~jch/software/files/ ; it's a utility for
generating the index of scalable fonts in a directory, which X window
needs to use those fonts. Mkfontscale is funkier than the earlier
ttmkfdir, in that it uses the same encodings available to the X
server, instead of a hard-coded list inside the binary.
If the full release of Apple's X11 is based on XFree86 4.3 (which
would be nice; we like client-side fonts) it will hopefully include
mkfontscale.
