I just tried DX (I hadn't tried it since installing Apple's X11) and
had a similar experience when I first tried one of the sample files
(AutoGlyph3DVector.net). I did this using dxui and then opening the
file. When I used the 'Execute Once' command, the rendering window
appeared, which uses software rendering by default. When I switched to
hardware rendering and then tried to rotate the image or re-execute the
sample, I got a failure similar to yours. However, when I then closed
the initial rendering window and then executed the sample again, the
new rendering window appeared, this time using hardware rendering. You
can check this with the rendering option, and also, the image looks
slightly different (brighter) when using hardware rendering. I'm not
sure why this would be, though.

I am running openDX (www.opendx.org), a large scientific visualization

I am running a freshly installed 10.2.3 and X11-beta on a dual G4/500

Any thoughts?
