Hi,
I installed a graphical java program on a remote Linux machine so that
a colleague of mine could run it. In order to ascertain that it was
working in that environment, I tried to run it from my dual G4 Power
Mac using X11 and ssh. I ran the program using a c-shell script. The
java program came up with it's first window but after a short while the
X11 program froze and I had to kill it. I then logged into the same
remote Linux computer via ssh from a Linux workstation, running RedHat
7.3. Not only did the program run with no problems, but the remote X11
graphics were much faster than on the Mac.
Is there a known problem with running java on a remote computer via
Apple's X11? I am running beta 3 of X11 and 10.2.6. The program I
was running is my own code, compiled using the NetBeans IDE on the Mac.
NetBeans uses the default JDK, which in my case is the standard Mac
JDK 1.4.1. The program runs fine locally on the Power Mac (or for that
matter on either of my PowerBooks). The only problem is running it
remotely using Apple's X11.
