As Eric already wrote, our Xft-XEmacs now works like a charme both

So we were wondering whether there are any conceptual differences of
the internal Xft handling of Apple's X11 in contrast to the handling
of the other systems? E.g., is XRender supported by default? And is
there by chance an X11 release available somewhere with profiling
information compiled into it?
Btw, I am running the X11 Beta 3 (XFree86 4.2.1), and I always linked
against the Xft and Xrender libs shipped with X11 (found under
/usr/X11R6/lib/).
There is no conceptual difference although RENDER is not quite as
optimized on Mac OS X. Still I have not seen the kind of terrible
performance you seem to be getting. Are you using XFree86 4.3.0 on
Linux and FreeBSD? This is one area that changed a lot between
XFree86 4.2.x and 4.3.0. You might want to download XFree86 4.3.0 for
Mac OS X or build Apple's X11 for yourself using the almost-1.0 WWDC
source code.
