From the X11 Beta 3 FAQ:
"Q: To which version of XFree86 does X11 for Mac OS X correspond?
A: The current Preview corresponds to XFree86 4.2.1. We are tracking
the progress of XFree86 4.3 and plan to synchronize with that in a
future release. Eventually, our hope is to merge our changes into the
XFree86 source tree and work directly from that."
