A frequent request of Mac users, who are new to X11, is the ability to use
the Apple Command key instead of (or in addition to) the Control key) for
keyboard shortcuts within X11 applications (e.g. OpenOffice.org, Gimp etc.).
I thought it would be simple to map the Command key as an additional Control
key using xmodmap (i.e. so that xmodmap -pm would report -- control
Control_L (0x43), Control_R (0x46), Meta_L (0x3f) ). This would leave the
Control key fully functional AND allow the use of the Command key for
keyboard shortcuts. But I haven't been able to remap the Command key using
xmodmap at all:(
Has anyone been successful in remapping the Command key to the Control key
(or _anything_ else)? If so, please post how you did it.
Is there a better way to allow the use of the Command key for X11 apps that
use the Control key for keyboard shortcuts _without_ disabling the normal
use of the Control key in X11?
TIA - asxless in iLand
