Hi John,
hm, according to this info from Apple's X11 FAQ it should work ok
(http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1232.html):
Q: Can I run another window manager instead of quartz-wm?
A: Yes, you can. Add a ~/.xinitrc which runs your favorite window
manager instead of quartz-wm.
I know this is not much help but at least it shows it SHOULD work
(somehow)... ;-)
Good luck, Georg

Hi all,
Sorry for the asking what seem to be the same questions in different
forms over and over, but I can't figure this one out. I am trying to
run gnome in X11, and editing the .xinitrc script with "exec
/sw/bin/gnome-session" gets me nothing (no wm starts). However, if I
call a terminal up in the same script and simply type "gnome-session"
it works fine, or if I call the .xinitrc script from a shell it tries
to run as well, but dies because I already have another wm running.
Any ideas as to what would be different in calling this command from a
terminal or from the xinitrc script? If I replace "exec
/sw/bin/gnome-session" with "exec /sw/bin/icewm" everything runs fine.
Permissions, etc. appear to be the same.
Thanks for any ideas/troubleshooting tips.
