Hi,
After doing a bit of reading, it seems that many companies use QT
(Abode, etc) for commercial cross-platform development. GTK+ seems to
be used by more open-sourced projects (at least that I can tell from my
reading)
QT has a hefty price tag for all 3 platforms for commercial
development, while GTK+ is free.
So QT, for example, is it a compile once,, run on all platforms, or
compile on each platform from the same code base? I am just trying to
understand if it is a bit like Java where I can compile once and run it
on all platforms or if I must compile for each, but it is truly
cross-platform where I write the code once and that same code runs on
all platforms,
So does anybody know more details about which would be better for me? I
own Pepper (a text editor originally by Maarten Hekkelman) and I am
trying to make it easier to develop and maintain on OS X, Linux/BSD and
Windows (perhaps a solaris and irix version at some point) Right now it
is a bit of a nightmare to keep all versions in tune with the others,
etc
I don't mind shelling out the money to buy QT (after I prove that it
will work for me for all platforms) I just want to get more input on
what others think for what i am doing.
So to develop on OS X, I just need to link against QT library to get
started from my CW project? (I get confused because people always
reference like 10 libraries in linux discussions <grin>)
Would anybody be able to get me started on the right track? I'll assume
that once I get started there are QT books that I can buy to learn
about how to develop with it.
