can someone please clarify this? Does this mean that while
X11 continues to start up in the default 24-bit TrueColor
mode on my PowerBook, that if requested a particular X-window
can itself be 8-bit PseudoColor on top of that? If so, that's
fantastic, but I can't get it to work for a couple of apps
which require 8-bit PColor...
Or does it mean the (much less impressive) situation that we
can now start up the server itself in 8-bit PColor mode?
it means both - starting the server with "-depth 8" will only create a
PseudoColor visual, normally you get the TrueColor visuals plus a
single PseudoColor visual that can be used by applications that want
it.
do the applications that fail to run output any error messages?
