my suspicion is that this is related to pseudo terminals, and xterm
not being able to allocate one. But we did not change xterm in this
release (actually, we've never touched xterm), so it is very strange
that it has started happening now.
I understand why you might think that, but if that was the case, would
we see the flicker of the xterm window creation?
Also, I should have _plenty of pseudo terminals free.
one workaround may be to create a Terminal.app window, then close it.
I think this should leave a pty that xterm can open.
Nope, I'm afraid this makes no difference on my system.
Also, if you feel like recompiling xterm, this patch may help:
I will take a look at giving that a go.
um... can anyone tell me what to do with it? :) :) (ie, how do I
recompile xterm and apply the patch?)
