Actually, they are all based on the XFree86 implementation, Version 11

Yes, both Apple's X server and XonX are based on XFree86.
Apple's X11.app is still on XFree86 4.2.1 (X11R6.3) while
the latest XonX supports XFree86 4.3.0 (X11R6.6).

what I said and added that they're both based on XFree86 and given
specific version numbers.

Most of us, in the day, never called it "X11". We said "X Window
System"
sometimes, "X Windows" more often (before Windoze 3.x existed), and
other
times just "X". That's just my experience.
X has long been referred to as X11 ever since version 11 (surprisingly
enough). Referring to it as 'X Windows' is quite common, but it isn't
correct. It's either 'X', 'X11' (as long as you're referring to version
11), or 'The X Window System'.
