But the fact remains that the product/application *is* called X11.app,
and just like people don't talk about iTunes.app but about iTunes,
people talk about X11 instead of about X11.app.
Yes that's the reason people have started using the term incorrectly,
but actually X11.app isn't the entire product, not everything is inside
that bundle. People just tend to think that the name of whatever
software they're using is the text below the icon they click on to load
it.
It's true that this is not 100% semantically correct and it can be
confusing to some people, but it's hardly anything worth holding a
flame war about imho.
Yeah, you're right, it's not. I'm not going continue trying to argue
with Eugene anymore, it's clearly pointless anyway. But take a look at
Randy Ford's post on this thread, he did a good job of pointing out why
being explicit is important.
