For the 'read_me challenged' who missed (or chose not to follow) the
suggestion & link "...to post their test results and questions on the Mac
OS X Testing forum (
http://www.ooodocs.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=20 ) The
porting team will monitor this forum for bugs and issues..."...
The OpenOffice.org V1.0.1 MacOS X X11/Darwin Final Beta (OOo) runs quite
well with all versions of Apple's X11.app Beta (X11) and the quartz.wm in OS
X 10.2x. After installing OOo in its default location*, X11 and the
matching X11 SDK...
You only need to add two applications to X11 Applications menu:
* OOo -- with the command /Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/program/soffice
* spadmin -- with the command
/Applications/OpenOffice.org1.0.1/program/spadmin
Then you can easily launch OOo or spadmin (the OOo printer/font admin tool)
using the X11 Applications menu.
If you wish to launch OOo and/or open OOo documents via the Finder, download
the latest version of Start_OpenOffice.org.dmg.sit from Terry Teague's
iDisk. You can mount the Public folder on Terry's iDisk with the "iDisk
Utility" (username teague). Version 1.0b7 or later is required to allow you
to specify that you want Start OpenOffice.org to launch X11 if it is not
already running.
X11's support of Cut and Paste of unformatted text, integration with dock,
etc. make OOo much more Mac friendly when running in X11:) But X11's
insistence on keeping its menu bar visible is distracting during
presentations with Impress:(

Notes:
* If you did not install OOo in its default location, simply replace
"/Applications" with the appropriate path to the OpenOffice.org1.0.1 folder
** The launching instructions that come with the OOo Final Beta are correct
if you are running XDarwin or OroborX. Both of these require the
environmental variables. X11 does not need them and barfs on the last bit
which points to the wrong X11R6 libs. FWIW The instructions that come with
the Final Beta don't mention X11 because the OOoMacOS X porting team didn't
know about X11 prior to Apple's release of X11 on the same day that the
OpenOffice.org MacOS X porting team released the Final Beta:(
