Subject: using the X11 version of emacs
Ok, this is probably a basic question, so if someone could kindly point
me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
How do I fire up the gui version of emacs? emacs from the CLI just runs
it in the terminal screen, not an entirely bad thing, but since I'm
trying to do this in X11, obviously, I'm trying for the graphic version.
If you really mean emacs and not xemacs, then I can tell you what was
the way as of version 19.x, but I don't know if its changed since
then as I've moved on and am now using xemacs. The way emacs decides
to run in CLI or 'X11' mode, is if the DISPLAY environment variable
is set when its launched. If set, X11, if not, CLI.
