How do I set environment variables in the .xinitrc file? I have tried
setenv but that is not a valid command for the sh shell so I tried env
but
that does not seem to work either. Here is my .xinitrc file.
Bourne shells need you both to set the variable and then tell it that
you want the
setting to be exported to any child processes. In a "standard" Bourne
shell this needs
two separate commands, but in bash you can combine them into one:
export DISPLAY=foobar:0
for example.
