Hi, I did something really stupid and need to try
to recover my home folder after a rm -r
I was doing something in fink and an was
compiling emacs and did a kill -9 on what I
though was the disk mounter to try to get some
disk images off my desktop that where stuck. I
think it was the wrong disk mounter to kill and
instead killed the image mounter for file vault
which was mounting my user file.
My /users/asam file was unmounted whist running
in that account so the system made it
/users/.asam and made a new /users/asam
I logged off, and logged back in as root and
removed the new /users/asam . I then duplicated
the /users/.asam and renamed it /users/asam
then I logged back in my normal user account and
everything was fine. I went to terminal.app and
under sudo -s did a rm -r .asam
BUT something went wrong :((((((((((((((((( and
my recovered /users/asam got deleted as well
I don't think the files have been wipped properly
yet so I'm hoping to rescue them or the original
users/.asam which contains the file vault image
of my home folder
I am currently booted from my old system on a
partition and have tried disk warrier and norton
unerase but can't find anything
Anyone know if there is a way to undue the rm -r
???? pref from commmand line and not third party
file recover prog
My backed up users/asam is about 5 days old so I
lost some mail but all my new clean 10.3 prefs in
library have gone and all the fine tuning and
tweeking done in the last days gone as well as
some config files for x11 and fink
:(((
