The answer is that a Linux application will not run on Mac OS X.
However, because of the similarities between Mac OS X's Unix
underpinnings and Linux, many of the same applications that run on
Linux have been ported to Mac OS X and can run on that operating
system.
Some Linux applications that make use of X Windows for their windowing
enviornment can also run on Mac OS X if they are ported.
Does that make sense?
Is there any applications, in particular, that you were interested in
running?
