Problem when launching X processes from X11 Applications menu

Hi,
I have a problem whenever I launch a process fron the Apple's X11 (Panther's v4.3) Applications menu: a tcsh (my default shell) user process is launched that maximizes cpu usage and that can only be killed with a -9 option (and no side effects, as far as I can see). Any idea why?
Thanks in advance for help,
gaetano
