I experienced this exact same problem. I found that it happens when
your Applications commands are explicitly sent to the background via
'&'. In x11 v1.0, the applications are backgrounded and there is no
need for the '&'. Remove the '&' and this may fix your problem. Hope

killed with a -9 option (and no side effects, as far as I can see). Any
