i believe this is due to a change in X11 1.0. there
was some email about this last week on this list. if
memory serves something about a trailing &. this is
should no longer be used in your customisable menu for
instance.
for a start, remove your .xinitrc. X11 will then use
/private/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc. or you can copy this
one as .xinitrc to your home directory. (you will need
to change permissions if you want to edit it.)
