I have the same problem. I am currently able to run MatLab R13 with
Apple's X11, but the recent MatLab installer for R13p1 tries to install
XDarwin (and does not succeed) despite there is a correctly working
Apple X11 already.

Why would I want to do this? I'm trying to install MATLAB.
According to
the Mathworks, the installation requires XDarwin and OroborOSX.
Apparently
these things are colliding with X11.
Nonsense. Matlab works very well with Apple's X11-beta3 and quartz-wm.
