Apple computers are supplied with Mac OS X. It runs Darwin as it's
"Unix base."
Darwin is a variant of BSD and uses Mach as well.
Programs written for Linux can and have been ported. Everything from
X11 to Open Office to emacs and Ethereal can and have been running on
Mac OS X for a while. Take a look at the Fink project at

Hi I'm new in Mac world.
I have a basic question: What OS Mac uses in general?
Back in 1992, I did programming on Mac System 7 for a year.
Now I'd like to do some programming in Mac world after years in Windows
world.
I'd like to know what's the OS Mac uses now adays? I heard it's Unix
based
now. Is it right?
So programs written for Linux can be ported over to Mac easily?
Thanks a lot in advance!
