Whenever I connect to my university Sun server to run Matlab there
with X11.app, I find the GUI "freezes" the first time I launch Matlab
-- the (java-based) X11 GUI does not accept mouse clicks or keyboard
input. If I kill Matlab from the CLI of the server, and then launch it
again, the interface works just fine.
This problem is mostly just an annoyance, but I'd like to resolve it
if possible. More details are below. Thanks in advance for any
assistance.
DETAILS:
I have X11.app configured to launch Terminal.app instead of an xterm;
I find Terminal a preferable environment; YMMV. In my
~/Library/init/tcsh/login.mine file, I have the line (which I learned
from this very mailing list some time back):
if (! $?DISPLAY) setenv DISPLAY ':0.0'
in order to set the DISPLAY variable. I then connect via ssh to the
server (running SunOS 5.7) on which Matlab is located, as:
ssh -X nowhere.loopback.edu -l mshanson
(Note: server name obviously changed to protect the innocent!)
I then simply launch Matlab from the CLI with:
matlab &
The Matlab splash-screen shows, then the various program windows open.
At this point, I can see the blinking cursor in the Command window but
cannot type anything, and clicks within any of the windows are entirely
unresponsive.
Killing the matlab process at the CLI and immediately re-launching
(same command as above) results in a fully-functional Matlab session.
(FWIW, the version of Matlab is 6.1.0.450, release 12.1.)
Please let me know if any further information would help resolve this
issue. TIA.
