Subject: GUI "Freeze" with X11 & Matlab
The Matlab splash-screen shows, then the various program windows open.
At this point, I can see the blinking cursor in the Command window but
cannot type anything, and clicks within any of the windows are entirely
unresponsive.
Killing the matlab process at the CLI and immediately re-launching
(same command as above) results in a fully-functional Matlab session.
(FWIW, the version of Matlab is 6.1.0.450, release 12.1.)
I had a problem just like this with another app and another company's
X server product (Unigraphics and Exodus under OS 9 a few years ago)
but it just sounds so similar the workaround I found might do the
trick for you.
There was a problem with focus. The app thought it had 'stolen' the
focus when it started but it didn't actually have it as my window
manager of choice (I still use the basic twm over any of the 'newer
and better' choices) ignores those events but their program ignored
focus events thinking it already had it so clicking within the window
did nothing.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I found that iconifying the app
then 'reopening' it (what would it be called de-iconifying?) got the
app back on track with my window manager, perhaps the same workaround
would work for you?
Brian
