Thanks to Mothra; my window is labled xterm and is a command line

That's the installation default, as I recall.
Thanks to Joe Koski: Put xcalc, xclock and oclock in Xapplications. They
all open in their own little
window on my Mac desktop.
That is exactly what should happen.
I'm wondering...are you expecting Quartz-WM to create a window on your
screen inside of which individual X applications will appear (basically, a
Multiple-Document Interface)? From reading your posts, it seems to me that
your X setup is working fine, but doesn't look like you expect it to.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Put xquartz in Xapplictions and it attempts to open (brief flash of a
file on dock) and then nothing. I did locate this: ls -a -F
/usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm* which if I
read correctly means quartz-wm is an exec file. but how to open?
If your xterm window came up with the usual Aqua appearance (three
multi-colored buttons in the upper left, etc.), then Quartz-WM is already
running. You don't need to launch it manually.
