This appears to be a wonderful tool if indeed you want a "keyboard
layout",
where the inputs are either single letters, or single letters typed
together with
the Control key, Alt key, etc.
It won't work if you want an "input method", which can require
intercepting
arbitrary sequences of input keystrokes and "composing" them into one
(or,
less likely, more) output Unicode characters. This trick seems to
require
a .keylayout file that switches into multiple "states", especially when
dealing
with prefixes common to multiple input sequences; and I'm having
trouble
with it.
For example, when entering Georgian mxeduli script, I'd like the input
method to trap
tS' and output ჭ
tS (followed by anything other than ') and output ჩ
ts' and output წ
ts (followed by anything other than ') and output ც
t' and output ტ
t (followed by anything other than s or S or ') and output თ
Has anyone had success using the XML format to define such Input
Methods?
Ken
