uh, four words: when hell freezes over.
os 9 classic may have been the old world way of doing things on the 68k motorola and then powerpc ibm-motorola processors, but one thing is for certain: it was all apple proprietary code. chances of them letting any of that out, obsolete or no, are about as likely as george w. bush giving sadam hussein a big "let's just make up and be friends" hug.
*especially* because technologies like the apple hfs+ file system management, open gl, open transport networking, etc., were added and begun in os 9 classic, and then many of these code libraries were ported and reused for compatibility to os x. and i'm certain apple doesn't want anyone else eating those pieces of the pie in the public domain.
no offense, but i'm wondering where you pulled this idea fresh from??? apple *has* to have an open source project like darwin under os x, not just because it seems like a good idea to "sound like linux" and have the underpinnings of the os be "open source," but because the root of the system is the freebsd mach kernel and therefore has to be free and open, under its license agreement. os 9 classic was created all at 1 infinity loop in cupertino and has many lawyers to make sure it never leaves that domain. it's two different animals.
so don't be hoping to ftp up to some server any time soon and be able to download the source for os 9 classic. and also -- why on earth would you want to? those of us who lived through it are much happier now under the big spotted x.
