It sounds like what you need is a fresh copy of Apples X11.app Test Release 3 (i think this was the last build that runs on 10.2.x).
Apple isn't in the business of offering beta software. They HAVE a final, complete product, after all.
I don't know why oh why can't one upgrade to Panther? It is MUCH better than Mac OS X.2.8. I am on Mac OS X.3.3 & enjoying it enormously.
If you want a newer version, you could install X11 using other methods such as Fink.org, Xdarwin.org, or one of the others out there.
Yeah, and it would also be a newer version, to boot. I think they are in XFree86 4.4.0, with better, smoother software ...But that wouldn't be Apple's X11! No Quartz window manager! She would have to use KDE, or GNOME, or twm, or some of those other wm thingies. -Nothing against it all, I have Yellow Dog Linux with both KDE & GNOME & it is delightful, but I prefer all things Mac since I fell in love with a Fat Mac in 1984 (Still working light duty. I upgraded it to a Mac Plus internally shortly after spring 1986.)
By the way, with YDL you can have a dual OS computer, being able to change over from OS X to RedHat Linux 9 without a reboot.
I think XDarwin would be easiest to install. It comes with a regular installer.
I did install XDarwin, but at that time I didn't know anything about Unix/GNU/Linux, so I had a hard time. Not that I know much more now, as I don't use it at work... yet, but I've been getting somewhat familiar with the CLI. Fink -& Fink Commander when I'm overwhelmed- help a lot. And I love the freebies!
Hope this helps!
