What's in your .xinitrc if anything?

I used X11 under Mac OS X 10.3.6 just last week with no problems.
I then applied the latest security patch from Apple over the weekend
and now X11 is majorly broken. Not sure if the security patch is at
fault.
Starting X11.app and then looking in the Console window I see the
following:
XFree86 Version 4.3.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
_XSERVTransmkdir: Owner of /tmp/.X11-unix should be set to root
[DRI] screen 0 installation complete

The last sequence of messages repeats indefinitely. I repaired
permissions and even re-installed the X11 user package from the
Panther install CD.
None of these steps helped.
I moved aside the X11 preferences file (com.apple.x11.plist) and my
.xinitrc file just in case. No changes after subsequent attempts.
Based on a tip I read during a Google search for info on this issue, I
removed the .Xauthority file from my home directory. This did not help
and a new .Xauthority is automatically created.
None of these steps changed the situation. I logged in as another user
and tried X11 as that user and see the same errors.
Anything I can do short of doing an archive re-install of Panther? I
do have a fairly recent backup.
Any help appreciated.
Jim
