You should not need to start it on his machine. If it is running on
your machine and you use the 'ssh -X' it will set the display for you
and you can just run the program and it should display on you machine.
IE
Start X11.app on your machine
ssh -X hismachine
xterm (on his machine)
and you should have an xterm pop up on your X display.
You also might need to check that X forwarding is allowed over ssh
/etc/sshd_config:#X11Forwarding no
/etc/sshd_config:X11Forwarding yes
