You need to de-select the 'Show icons on desktop' preference in KDE's
Control Center. This setting in found in Desktop->Behavior. Having this
setting on, there is a layer with icons that blocks mouse inputs to
controls.
I suggest checking X11->Preferencces->Output->Full screen mode, then
launching KDE. You can use your mouser in that mode. Change the KDE
preference. Quit. De-select the Full screen mode in X11. Quit. Then you
should be able to get the functioning you want.
Command-option-A will switch your screen from KDE Full screen to OSX
desktop. You may need that to quit X11. There is another fix, but try
this one first.

Hi all,
I succeeded in installing X11 (downloaded it) and all dev packages on
the disc.
I installed FinkCommander and using that, did a binary install of KDE.
KDE starts and seems to run; however I can't select any of it's
windows and those window's close buttons and controls are grayed out.
What did I neglect to do?
