I've installed fink and fink commander and I'm trying to run KDesktop.
I can get it to run badly by starting X11 and typing into the
terminal...
/sw/bin/startkde
The instructions tell me to make a file with the following, called
.xinitrc in my home dir
source /sw/bin/init.sh
export KDEWM=kwin
/sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1
Which should start KDE when I start X11. This file doesn't seem to have
any effect. Am I doing it right..?
I've put the file in harddrive:users:myname.
I made the file with TextEdit and pressed return at the end of each
line (including the last line, so there is an "empty" line after the
startkde line.
There is a greaterthan character before /tmp in the last line and
space, figuretwo, greaterthan, ampersand, figureone after /kde.log
Any help will be much appreciated.
K.
