Kevin,
Open a terminal session and type: pico -w ~/.xinitrc your .xinitrc will
open in pico if you have one or a blank file will be created in which
you can enter the previous directions---type:
source /sw/bin/init.sh
export KDEWM=kwin
/sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1
Use the arrow keys to navigate and when the file is complete type:
Control-o, Return (this writes the file) then type: Control-X to exit
